The main character the eponymous Lanark is well developed and complex, independent of his likability or relate-ability at different points in the book. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. The eye unlike Wyndham Lewis’ in The Human Ageinstead of being scathing, is more simply chafed; there’s a sharp edge here, but it glints only once in a long while.

Actually, it doesn’t quite resemble any of those things, but if you would enjoy reading any of the above, you must pick this novel up immediately.
