You might very well enjoy this book as a work of fiction, but it was just not for me. Differences include a section of the movie set in the mainland penal colony.
I went into the reading of this book believing that it was a true story and I am certainly lobro to come to the conclusion that there’s very little truth to be found anywhere in the book.

As I read it, I kept being astonished. The book and movie both present Devil’s Island as having rocky cliffs, when charriefe fact, though the entire island is rocky, it gently slopes into the surrounding sea.

Papillon – book and adaptations. Even the officials in Venezuela’s remote areas are better for they’re also concerned with public peace. At 17 inhe enlisted in the French Navy and served for two years. Disappointing– he seems to make his peace with everything at the end, but it felt very self indulgent and scraped together [written after his big Papillon smash, perhaps trying to milk the cash cow] and should have employed a ghost writer or given himself a serious re-edit.
My mother knew Papillon and another one of the characters in the book Francoise. You had everything you needed, not one but two loving wives both pregnant with your child not a comment on the fact that one of the wives was not much more than 12, or that the two girls were sisters, just a comment on what he had and what he left behind ; you had a community who accepted and revered you.
In Banco, the repeating pattern reveals itself. He gained Venezuelan citizenship and celebrity status a few years later. I figure if Papillon cahrriere through 14 years of horror, the least I can do is read his pages of escapes. There are many reasons to read and enjoy Papillion.
